Cahill Team Named ‘Litigator of the Week’ Finalists for Victory Striking Down California Content Moderation Law

Cahill partner Joel Kurtzberg, senior counsel Floyd Abrams, and associates Jason Rozbruch and Lisa Cole have been selected as “Litigator of the Week” finalists by The American Lawyer’s Litigation Daily.
The team was recognized for their work in connection with a Ninth Circuit ruling that a trial judge wrongly denied a bid to block parts of a new California law that requires social media platforms to disclose their content-moderation policies and certain statistics to the California Attorney General relating to efforts to define and/or moderate some of the most controversial categories of content. A three-judge panel found that provisions requiring social media companies to disclose how and whether they define extreme content are likely unconstitutional under the First Amendment.
