Cahill Pro Bono Team and the Legal Aid Society Prevail on Behalf of Three El Salvadorian Siblings

A Cahill pro bono team and co-counsel, The Legal Aid Society’s Youth Project Immigration Law Unit, prevailed and obtained asylum on behalf of three siblings from El Salvador, ranging in age from 12 to 16 years old. Cahill has partnered with The Legal Aid Society on this representation since 2017. One sibling was granted asylum following an administrative hearing in 2017, but the other two brothers’ asylum applications were denied and they were referred to Immigration Court for removal proceedings. The Cahill team made numerous FOIA requests, filed motions and pre-hearing briefing, obtained expert psychiatric evaluations, and prepared affidavits. At the hearing on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, the Immigration Court Judge granted asylum to both brothers and credited the record that Cahill developed, as well as the quality of the briefing.
